Christmas Eve 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Christmas, the celebration of the birth of Christ, is more than just a holiday and a tradition. Jesus Christ IS the Son of God, born of the virgin Mary.

He opened the gates of heaven and brought all of mankind the hope of eternal salvation as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Christ taught us that the truth would set us free. Faith, freedom and the love of truth is what our founding fathers fought so hard for as they established this great nation and threw off the yoke of King George III and the British empire proclaiming, "We have no King...no King but King Jesus!"

Washington Crossing the Deleware

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore, keep standing firm and do not be subject to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1)

The story of Christ and His glory and the hope He brings to all mankind has now spread to the entire globe and provides comfort to all who will simply believe and follow Him. The Christmas holiday season has been, for hundreds of years, synonymous with countless acts of sacrifice, charity, brotherly love, and kindness.

Birth of our Lord Jesus ChristIt is our prayer for Christmas 2009 that we Americans, and especially those of us who live in politically correct Washington State, will remember from Whom it is that all blessings flow, so that we might remain an unshackled and free people, able to celebrate and publicly proclaim the wonders of the joyous and blessed Christmas season! Amen.

Merry Christmas from the Washington Values Alliance!

"Extreme Seattle" vs. Washington State PDF Print E-mail
December 13, 2009 - In the wake of the Referendum 71 campaign and prior to the upcoming 2010 Legislative Session (which is scheduled to begin January 11), now is a good time for some introspection and contemplation of the future for Washington families. While we all need a break from politics at times, we must not forget the urgency of the situation at hand.

We remain in a very serious crisis here in Washington, living under the dominion of the most liberal legislature and Governor in state history. While it is certain that outside of the greater Seattle area we are NOT a liberal state, we are hamstrung politically by the lack of representation by those who espouse traditional values in our government.

University of Washington professor of geography and expert in urban demographics (Dick Morrill) has done some extensive analysis of the R-71 vote and written an informative and fascinating article "We Are Two States: Seattle and Washington". He writes that there is an "indisputable polarization in what we might call the modernist-traditionalist divide". He continues:

"Referendum 71 passed by a 53 to 47 percent vote, revealing the power of the King County electorate, which alone provided a margin of 104,000 of the statewide margin of 113,000. It points again to what a statistical outlier Seattle is among cities, what I called in an earlier article, "Extreme Seattle."

Gays to the Anti-71 Camp: "You were Right, This IS about Marriage" PDF Print E-mail

November 18, 2009 - Not that we didn't expect it, but the R-71 campaign was handicapped by the bias of our incredibly liberal and increasingly shameless statewide media complex. Like a mantra, the ACCEPT R-71 campaign's talking points were reflexively repeated by nearly every Washington State newspaper, radio, and TV station. How many times did we hear or read that "SB 5688 and R-71 is not about marriage, but domestic partnerships...period"?

While we live in difficult times, the truth still comes out in the wash. While browsing through R-71 articles posted on the web, I found an honest column written by the other side - printed a week AFTER Election Day, of course.

Please click here to read "Gays to the Anti-71 Camp:  You were Right, This IS about Marriage".

Wisdom Gained the Hard Way PDF Print E-mail
Having recently celebrated my 10th wedding anniversery, I had (pleasantly) almost forgotten some of the personal failures I encountered in life prior to giving my total commitment to follow Jesus Christ. This past week I was reminded of some of those failures by some of the media folks because of my involvement with Referendum 71 and Protect Marriage Washington.

The attacks on my character have served to solidify my resolve and to remind me (after some self reflection) as to why I took up this battle in the first place.

ARLINGTON, WA - May 5, 2009 - A coalition of faith based and conservative organizations and leaders filed a Referendum on May 4 to overturn Senate Bill 5688, a 110 page measure which includes the phrase "marriage shall apply equally to state registered domestic partnerships" 180 times.

ARLINGTON, WA - May 2, 2009 - The Washington Values Alliance proudly announced today the addition of Lisa Shinn to their Board of Directors.

Lisa Shinn
"The addition of Lisa Shinn to our board is welcome news as she brings her significant energy and influence to our cause on the eastern side of Washington State.  We are thrilled to have Lisa on our team", said Larry Stickney, President of WAVA. "Lisa is well grounded in her faith and political philosophy. She will be an anchor to this organization".

Lisa Shinn was born in Spokane and raised in various parts of the world as a "military brat".   Returning home to Spokane, she graduated magna cum laude from Eastern Washington University with a B.A. in business, and has worked in the business field all of her adult life.

Over the years Lisa served in many leadership roles in party politics.  Lisa and her late husband Rod served as District Directors for the Ellen Craswell for Governor campaign.  After Rod's retirement in 1998, the Shinn's moved to the Colville area and in 2002 opened a Christian worldview bookstore / espresso bar.  After several years of illness, Rod passed away and went to be with the Lord in 2007.

An avid reader and lover of history, Lisa has continued the work of the bookstore, and continues to invest in the culture through involvement in civil affairs.  "WAVA is providing a good work in our State, and I am honored to be a part of it", said Shinn upon accepting the board position.
